Corrosion resistance of titanium in river and sea water

Titanium has very good corrosion resistance in the river and sea water, especially in the sea, the corrosion performance of titanium is 100 times than that of stainless steel. Titanium is the most corrosion-resistant metal material in the natural water. In high temperature water and water vapor (such as 300 degrees), titanium may be discoloured or chalkiness and even dynamiting, but it will not cause corrosion. Titanium is very resistant to corrosion in seawater at 260 degrees Celsius, the titanium tube condenser has been used for more than 20 years in contaminated seawater, only to find a slight discoloration and no signs of corrosion.

The corrosion resistance to crevice, the corrosion resistance to pitting, the corrosion resistance to impact of industrial pure titanium in seawater are relatively good, the sensitivity of stress corrosion and fatigue corrosion is not serious. In the high velocity flow of seawater (for example, 36.6m/s), the erosion rate is somewhat increased. There are some effects on the erosion resistance of titanium, which is not as serious as the copper alloy and aluminum alloy, when there is sand particles and other friction particles in the sea water. Titanium is the most ideal material for anti cavitation corrosion in sea water. However, due to the corrosion resistance of titanium in seawater and no toxicity, it is a good place for marine organisms, which is an urgent problem to be solved in the practical application.
